Your feet are your foundation. If they aren’t balanced as they should be, it puts pressure on your knees, and that can make your pelvis unlevel, and an unlevel pelvis can throw off your spine. Leveling feet helps to align the whole body and makes it possible to walk, run, and perform daily tasks more comfortably.
Dr. Darding helps patients level the arches of their feet by designing custom orthotics. She scans the arches and then fabricates a mold to fit into their shoes. Orthotics aid in the correction of structural and biomechanical problems of the spine, hips, knees, ankles and feet, and can even help correct a short-leg posture.
Who can benefit from custom orthotics?
Many people are surprised to find they may benefit from orthotics.
- Athletes and runners
- Pregnant women
- People who have uneven wear on their shoes
- People with bunion pain and heel pain
- People with hip pain, knee pain and low back pain
- Dr. Darding has designed orthotics for flat feet, orthotics for plantar fasciitis, and orthotics for fallen arches. There’s a good chance she can help your condition as well.
When to Wear Orthotics
It’s important to gradually build up the time in which you use your custom orthotics. Your feet will need time to adjust to a new correct biomechanical position. During the first 48 hours, you should use the orthotics for approximately 3-4 hours. For the remainder of the week, wear them for 6-8 hours. In the second week of use and after, your custom orthotics can be worn all day.
What if my feet don’t hurt?
Pain in the feet is not the only indicator that you may benefit from custom orthotics. Your feet may feel fine but you may still have pain in your shins, knees, or back because your feet are unlevel. Talk to Dr. Darding about custom orthotics if you are experiencing any of these symptoms.
